LNP - NBA’s Sacramento Kings buy fitness-measuring kiosk from high-tech Lancaster firm

Recommended Posts

A local high-tech startup that has developed a kiosk to monitor an individual’s health and fitness has landed a high-profile customer — the Sacramento Kings.

Lancaster-based Connexion Health has announced that the National Basketball Association franchise has purchased one of its walk-in kiosks. The price was not disclosed.

According to Connexion Health, the kiosk uses artificial intelligence and sensor technology to check on a player’s health without touching his body.

The kiosk will “measure and analyze ... key physical attributes including their posture, lateral balance, and body movement, in order to prevent injuries, improve their on-court performance and fitness levels, and lengthen their playing careers,” said Connexion Health.

Connexion Health showcased its kiosk for NBA teams at the NBA Combine in May.

An article on the SportTechie website said the Kings are one of two NBA teams to have a kiosk installed. But the article did not name the second team; a Connexion Health spokesman did not immediately respond to an inquiry from LNP.

It was also unclear whether the Kings are Connexion Health's first customer in any field.

One of eight companies launched by Lancaster-based Aspire Ventures, Connexion Health said it developed the kiosk for the Kings with Fusionetics, a firm that specializes in performance analysis.

Fusionetics works with 300 pro and college teams; Aspire is among its investors.

The exterior of the kiosk was developed by Tait Towers, a Lititz-based firm best known for creating portable stages used by rock bands on tour.

Connexion Health hopes to sell its kiosk to health systems, doctor’s offices, hospitals, fitness centers, sports camps and physical therapy offices.
