prettylight 3024
As a result of the pandemic, tens of millions of Americans are facing economic desperation. They can't afford to pay their rent and face eviction, they can't afford to go to the doctor, they can't afford to feed their children and they are going deeper and deeper into debt. — Bernie Sanders (@BernieSanders) December 14, 2020

Popular Post Farmer Vincent 11902
Trump is just tossing wrenches into the gears the whole way. If McConnell gives in and does the $1200 or $2000, I wouldn't be surprised if Trump vetoes.
Popular Post prettylight 3024
it seems like a cruel jerking around of the American people for months getting hopes up, dashing them, getting hopes up again, dashing them again
Popular Post Farmer Vincent 11902
One theory being floated about this is that it's all about who's going to be the de facto figurehead of the Republican party, McConnell or Trump. Trump could have been urging Congress to get another stimulus out for months but hasn't been interested it seems. Now all of a sudden he's making like he cares about poor people right when McConnell has finally reached a deal with Democrats. We know Trump is pissed at McConnell for not rallying the troops to his side about the election and on Jan. 6 the Senate has to ratify the election result. On that day, Republicans are either going to vote to approve the result and in a sense signify their support of McConnell as their future for the party or vote to reject the result, showing their support for a continuation of the party of Trump. McConnell can make life miserable for trumpers and Trump can make life miserable for the others. Maybe it'll cause a schism that'll result in the emergence of a third party. So derailing the stimulus and hightailing it out of town leaves McConnell in the lurch. Trump has people literally hungry for 2k and when McConnell doesn't deliver he loses political capital. Less, and Trump will be in a position to veto for its not being enough. If this is the way of it, then millions suffer on the altar of political gamesmanship between two people. Merry Christmas.
simpleton 1005
Trump said months ago he would sign a bill that extended unemployment benefits and included another stimulus check, as long as that's all the bill was. He didn't want all the other crap included. Congress did nothing since July on covid relief. Why would they need his encouragement? Now they pass a bill at the last minute that is woefully inadequate, and somehow Trump is wrong for being critical of it.

But he didn't hold meetings with McConnell or others or send Pence to work with them in reaching something everybody could live with because he was too immersed with his election fraud thing. So it's no surprise that Republicans aren't on the same page with each other and Trump ended up threatening to veto. McConnell was resisting any sizeable relief for individuals all along and tried to load up on benefits for corporations. Everybody knew that for months but the White House remained silent until the cow was just about in the barn.
